Girls Star Launches Babergh Safety Booklet
One of the stars of ITV1’s Bad Girls will
be steering clear of the long arm of the law at the launch of a
new community safety booklet. Alicia Eyo, best known for her character
Denny Blood in the prison-based drama, lent her support to Babergh
Be Safer, a leaflet produced by the Babergh Community Safety Partnership
(CSP).
The booklet was launched on Monday, June 2 and is just one of the
Partnership’s latest tools to try and help the district improve
on its already excellent track record of low crime rates.
Currently Babergh is one of the safest districts to live in with
its crime rate at half the national average. But with the publication
of this booklet, which is being distributed to 40,000 households
with Babergh District Council’s magazine Babergh Matters!,
the CSP hopes to improve those figures even further. Ann Scott,
Babergh’s Community Safety Officer, said: “"This
booklet is an important project for the CSP and is a unique opportunity
for us to distribute important advice, useful information and helpline
numbers to so many people in one go.
“Some of the security tips may seem like common sense but
it is easy to become complacent when we live in such a safe district.
This is a gentle reminder to remain vigilant, even though the chance
of becoming a victim of crime in Babergh is as little as five per
cent."
Cllr Nick Ridley, Chairman of the CSP, added: “The CSP - working
together to ensure that Babergh remains a very safe place to live
in - is very pleased to be able to launch the Community Safety Booklet
entitled Babergh be Safer next Monday.
“It contains a number of tips and essential telephone numbers
so please keep it by your telephone just in case you ever need advice
or assistance.”
Inside the booklet there is information, advice and helpline numbers
on a variety of topics - alcohol, drugs, domestic abuse, home security,
personal safety, vehicle crime, road safety, home safety, anti-social
behaviour and citizen involvement. Articles include, who you can
turn to if you are a victim of domestic abuse, how to avoid being
tricked by a bogus caller, personal safety tips to keep you safe
when walking alone, how to report anti-social behaviour and much
more. Organisations that have contributed to the booklet include
Babergh District Council, Connexions, Suffolk Police, Babergh Domestic
Violence and Abuse Forum, the Environment Agency and Suffolk County
Council.
